December 17 solidarcomm : a second life for your mobile phone! In Switzerland every year seven million persons replace their cellular phone. Most of those cell phones lie in a drawer. The solidarcomm-campaign gives them a second life and supports the development projects of terre des hommes switzerland. an ecological solution: 70 percent of the mobile phones discarded in Switzerland are still functioning and could be used again. Analyses show that the production of a mobile phone causes the greatest environmental impact in the course of its life. The solidarcomm-campaign gives discarded mobile phones a second life and thus makes an important contribution to environment protection and the use of resources. A social engagement: The collected mobil phones are tested and selected in the "Réalise" workshops. The work is done by persons attending a professional reintegration programme. Réalise offers reintegration and professional training enabling them to find work in the job market. A gesture of solidarity:
the used mobile phones are sold in countries with low purchasing power. Thus it becomes affordable to make telephone calls where there are few fix net connections and where the majority of the village population has no access to a telephone. In the country side the mobile phone has a high importance. In case of emergency help can be called. With the sale of second hand quality devices, costing about one fifth of new phones, solidarcomm renders a great service to those who could not afford new mobile telephones.
For each collected device terre des hommes Switzerland receives five francs. With this money terre des hommes Switzerland supports 60 projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The life situation of children and youth in the South is improved. |
